Learning to be princesses

They’re not quite ready to dance the Nutcracker yet, but since the beginning of November, a group of girls, from 2nd grade through high school have been meeting at NorthChurch each Monday evening to learn ballet.

They’re part of City Gospel Mission’s Princesses Ballet program, which is now in it’s third year at NorthChurch.  An average of 8 girls attend each week.  As a CGM intern, Olivia Owens is our Site Director, and UC student Jessica Tatum provides the ballet instruction.

Olivia not only coordinates all aspects of the program, which includes enlisting her dad, Gary Loomans as a driver, but she is also leading a weekly devotion on powerful women of the Bible.  In the photo at right, Olivia is having some one on one time with one of the girls.  Right now they’re learning about Queen Esther.  Being a princess and having poise is about more than just being able to hold a graceful pose!

The girls are on Christmas break, but in January, they’ll start up again, getting ready for a Spring recital, with other princesses from around the city.
